# Getting Started

Everything on Tavern Cozy works after you sign in: creating characters, chat, lorebooks, presets, personas, and image generation all live behind your account.

## Create an account

1. Open [taverncozy.com/login](https://taverncozy.com/login).
2. Choose a sign-up method — see [Signing in](/login) for all of them.
3. With email sign-up you'll set:
- **Email** — your login + password reset address
- **Username** — 3–44 characters, starts with a letter, letters/numbers/underscores only
- **Display name** (optional) — shown on your profile and creations
- **Password** — at least 8 characters with at least one letter and one number

Usernames are public and unique; display names are cosmetic.

## Plans and credits

Your account has a **base credit allowance** that resets each month. Chat messages and image generations draw from it. From the usage meter in the sidebar you can see what's left and how it's being spent.

| Plan | What you get |
|---|---|
| Free | Monthly base credits, standard models, community features |
| Premium (monthly/yearly) | Higher limits, priority access, premium models, profile badge, ad-free |
| Overage credits | One-time top-ups that never expire — spend them after your monthly allowance |

## Your profile

Your profile page (`Settings`) is where account details live:

- **Profile** — avatar, banner, display name, and public presence
- **Account settings** — email, username, sign-out, delete account
- **Passkeys** — add or remove passkeys for passwordless sign-in
- **Usage** — monthly budget, what's been spent, and a per-model breakdown
